Being with Fires: a time to be with land that has experienced wild fire

Drawing on Indigenous ways of knowing, Mackenzie invites you to a land-based circle reflection at Knox Mountain on September 17 from 1:30–3:00 p.m. Together, participants will explore how wildfires can be forces of both renewal and disruption and consider their responsibilities within a changing climate. We will meet at the Central Okanagan United Church parking lot and carpool from there.

Mackenzie Griffin is nêhiyaw (Cree) and nahkawininiwak (Saulteaux) from Sunchild First Nation and Barrhead, Alberta. She lives on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territory of the Syilx Okanagan Peoples and in the Okanagan Watershed, serving as the Kelowna facilitator for Wild Church, BC.

What you will need: Remember to bring a chair and a drink to keep you hydrated and to dress for the weather.

We will meet at the parking lot of Central Okanagan Churchand carpool from there to Knox Mountain

If you prefer to meet us at Knox Mountain here are the Directions for Knox Mountain Park: Follow Clifton Road (off Clement) up to Rio Drive (entrance to Magic Estates), turn left on Rio Drive and follow nearly to end, turning right on Woodpark Crescent, then left on Woodpark Court. Parking is available on the street. There is a short trail back to Knox Mountain Drive beside the house at 392 Woodpark Court. If the weather is good, follow Knox Mountain Drive down to the left, around the curve and take the trail/road to the right at the Y just before the next curve. If weather is not good take Knox Mountain Road up to the right and follow the road up to the covered shelter area.
